Family and friends remember Martin Weller as a man whose life was filled with music, laughter and friendship. Born in the north of Ireland, living in Co. Down, Co. Derry, Devon and finally Tramore, Martin carried with him a warm spirit that made friends wherever life took him. He was a devoted husband to Jane and a loving father to Michaela, Coleen, Kieran and Rosie, whose love and support meant everything to him. Those who knew Martin speak of a man who was generous with his time, easy with a smile and happiest when sharing music with others. One friend simply described him as “a lovely man, great musician,” while another recalled the many evenings listening to him play at The Ledger. Fellow musicians fondly remembered the Raglan sessions, where Martin was “always happy to offer advice and lend a guitar”, a quiet act of kindness that said so much about the man he was.
Martin leaves behind memories scattered across places, songs and friendships that lasted a lifetime. He was remembered for his humour, his gentle nature and the chats people looked forward to each day. Staff at Cherry Grove Nursing Home spoke of how he would be “sadly missed for daily chats”, while others remembered “good times with Martin” and “many a good laugh”. These simple words reveal a life well lived, one rich in companionship and generosity. Though his music has fallen silent, its echoes remain in the stories shared by family and friends, in the kindness he showed to others, and in the hearts of Jane, Michaela, Coleen, Kieran and Rosie. Martin’s was a life that touched many, and his memory will continue to play on in all those who had the privilege to know him.
Late of Cairn Dubh, Tramore, Co. Waterford. Formerly of Co. Down and Co. Derry and Devon, England.
