DRAFT, for Mark/solicitor review. This is not final legal text.
Cookie Policy
Effective date: 19 September 2025 [TO CONFIRM: new effective date once Mark and the solicitor approve this version]
This Cookie Policy explains how RIP Funerals Limited t/a RIP Ireland (trading under the registered trademark RIP Ireland) uses cookies and similar technologies to enhance your browsing experience, understand website usage, and meet our legal obligations under Irish and EU law.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help us understand how our site is used, remember your preferences, and provide features that make your experience smoother and more relevant.
2. Why We Use Cookies
We use cookies to:
- Ensure core website functionality
- Understand visitor behaviour (e.g., time on page, clicks)
- Remember your preferences and improve personalisation
- Deliver relevant content and offers, where appropriate
We do not use cookies to store sensitive personal data.
3. Types of Cookies We Use
- Strictly Necessary: Essential for the website to function properly. Cannot be disabled.
- Performance & Analytics: Help us improve our site by measuring usage and behaviour.
- Functionality: Save your preferences (e.g., language, display settings).
- Targeting/Advertising: Tailor content and show relevant ads. Only used with clear consent.
The cookies this website sets today:
- Strictly necessary: sign-in cookies for partner and family accounts (names starting sb-, until you sign out); rip_consent, which remembers your cookie choice (6 months); rip_memorial_draft, which keeps the details you type while creating a memorial (2 weeks); rip_voter, which lets you add a heart or prayer to a memory only once (2 years, set only when you do). RIP Ireland staff only: rip_view_as, which lets an administrator see a partner's portal as they do (8 hours).
- Functionality: rip_wall_view, which remembers whether you chose the list or grid view of memorial walls (1 year, set only when you choose); and, in your browser's local storage rather than a cookie, rip_saved_v1, the memorial walls and funeral directors you save with the heart when you are not signed in (until you remove them or clear your browser).
- Performance & Analytics: Google Analytics cookies (names starting _ga), only if you accept analytics cookies.
[TO CONFIRM: the new site sets no advertising cookies and does not load Google Analytics yet; confirm the cookie list and lifetimes above with the solicitor]
4. Legal Basis for Cookies
We rely on legitimate interest for essential cookies that keep our site secure and functional. For all other types, we use your explicit consent as required by GDPR and Irish ePrivacy law (S.I. No. 336/2011).
5. Managing Your Cookie Preferences
When you first visit our website, a banner will ask you to accept or reject analytics cookies. You can:
- Accept analytics cookies
- Reject analytics cookies
- Change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the foot of every page, or on this page
No analytics cookies are set until you accept them. We store your cookie choice for up to 6 months or until you update it.
[TO CONFIRM: wording updated on 13 October 2026 to match the new cookie banner (accept or reject analytics); for Mark and the solicitor to review]
6. Third-Party Cookies
We may work with trusted partners (such as Google Analytics) to help us analyse and improve our site. These providers may set their own cookies, governed by their privacy terms. We generally do not load third-party cookies unless consent is given.
All our partners are required to comply with GDPR and follow strict contractual safeguards.
[TO CONFIRM: the new site does not load Google Analytics at present; it is ready to load it only after you accept analytics cookies. Confirm whether it will, and list any third parties that set cookies (for example the payment provider during checkout)]
7. Data Security and Privacy
All cookie-related data is processed securely and never sold. We do not use cookies to identify individuals or store personal information. Our practices fully comply with the Data Protection Acts 1988–2018 and GDPR.
[TO CONFIRM: sign-in cookies do identify a signed-in account. Check this sentence with the solicitor]
8. Updates to This Policy
We may revise this policy from time to time. Any updates will be reflected here with a new effective date. Significant changes may be notified by pop-up or email.
