Family and friends remember David Browne, known to many simply as Davy, as a quiet gentleman whose presence was long familiar on the streets and roads around Tramore. Late of Marian Terrace, he was known as someone who valued simple things in life, friendship, conversation and the rhythm of the miles he ran over many years. In his younger days he was recognised locally as a talented athlete and runner, admired for his discipline and dedication, and remembered by many from football days with Tramore Rangers and from countless runs through the town and along the roads of Waterford. Predeceased by his beloved parents Tom and Chrissie and his brothers Edward and Tommy, David remained deeply connected to his family and was greatly loved by his siblings Mary, Anne, Jacinta, Tina, Johnny and Carmel. Those who knew him best remember a man who lived quietly but kindly, someone whose warm greeting, easy conversation and steady presence left a lasting impression on neighbours and friends.
The many tributes shared in his memory reflect the respect and affection he earned throughout his life. One message remembered him simply as “such a gentle, generous soul.” Another reflected the everyday moments neighbours valued most, describing him as “always friendly and engaging, a good neighbour and a fine athlete in his day.” Among those who knew him through athletics it was said that “Davy won many races in his day, always humble and encouraging to others.” Others remembered the simple kindness that defined him, saying “he was a lovely man who always stopped for a chat,” while many summed up the feeling of the community in just a few words, calling him “a real gentleman.” Through these memories David will be remembered with warmth and respect by all who knew him, a man whose quiet character, sporting spirit and kindness to others will remain part of Tramore’s shared memory.
Late of Marian Terrace, Tramore, Co. Waterford. David passed suddenly but peacefully on Monday the 9th of March 2026. RIP.
