Family and friends remember Mel O’Connor as a very special woman, one of a kind, whose warmth, humour and strength left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Late of Pine Grove, Tramore and formerly of Fews, Kilmacthomas, Mel was deeply loved by Wally, Amanda, Jerry, Flora, Nick and all her extended family. Those who knew her speak of a woman who was “as solid as a rock,” who always enjoyed “a good chat and a laugh,” and who brought great character, friendship and good humour into the many circles of her life.

Mel is remembered with great fondness from her years in Bank of Ireland, from Tramore Golf Club, and from the friendships she built through work, golf, family and community. One former colleague recalled that Mel was at the centre of the conversations in BOI Parnell Street, where she “loved a big long chat and had time for everyone.” Others remembered enjoying her company on the golf course, her sense of humour, her warm and straightforward way with people, and the fun she brought to BOI and Tramore Golf Club. She was described as “a very special lady” who would be greatly missed by all who were privileged to know her, and as someone who was simply “one of a kind.” May Wally, Amanda and all the O’Connor and Wall families find comfort in the love surrounding them, the many happy memories Mel leaves behind, and the knowledge that her character, kindness and laughter will be remembered always.
