Family and friends remember Robert (Bob) Fleming as a man of strength, wit, and unwavering kindness whose presence lit up every room. A proud Tramore resident and Retired Army Sergeant, Bob was defined by his deep love for his wife Rita and his pride in their sons Robert, Paul and Alan. Whether sharing stories in Connolly’s, cheering on his favourites at Cheltenham, or offering a listening ear to a neighbour, Bob had a gift for making people feel seen, valued and entertained. He was sharp-minded, loyal, and full of warmth — a man who could command a room not just with his authority, but with a well-timed joke or a quiet word of support. His family and friends saw in him a rare blend of strength and gentleness, a man who gave freely and expected little in return. He lived fully, loved deeply and led with humour and heart.
He is remembered with deep affection by those who knew him best. One friend wrote, “A larger-than-life character who would astonish you with his knowledge and wisdom. I’m proud to call him a friend.” A neighbour shared, “He was such a lovely man. Always a smile and a story. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.” Another wrote, “Bob was sharp as a razor with a sense of humour to match. He will be so sadly missed.” A former colleague recalled, “It was a pleasure and honour to have worked with him. Great memories that won’t be forgotten.” And a close friend offered, “Bob, you were one in a million and will be very sadly missed. You adored your family and it showed in every word you spoke.” Through his humour, his integrity and his unwavering love, Bob leaves behind a legacy that will live on in the stories we tell, the values he upheld, and the people whose lives he touched so deeply.
Late of Somerville, Tramore, Co. Waterford, Retired Army Sergeant. Bob passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family in the Mater Hospital, Dublin, following a short illness on Saturday the 10th of January 2026. RIP.
